Who should take a Bake to Learn class?Anyone is welcome to take Bake to Learn classes! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nannies, teachers or anyone else seeking new opportunities to teach and bond with their young learners are great candidates for our classes. For adult-and-me classes, any pair may attend. Age range recommendations for each scheduled class are included in the class description and may vary based on class size and recipe complexity.

Which class should I take?We recommend our Foundations course to adults who want to gain confidence and comfort in the kitchen. If baking or cooking with kids currently sounds overwhelming, or if you would love to share family recipes but do not know where to begin in the kitchen with your young baker, this class is a great place to start! We recommend our Adult-and-me classes for adults ready to work alongside a child while making a recipe with help from an instructor. Are you ready to jump in with your young baker but unsure how to make your baking activity more educational? This class is for you! Or, are you comfortable taking on the challenge of managing a recipe but wish the experience were less chaotic? Come practice with us! We recommend our Celebrations classes for group events. Do you want to host a fun (and educational) event for your young baker and their peers, but don’t know where to start? This class is perfect for team building, bonding, or for a specific occasion such as a holiday or birthday. We recommend our Individualized in-home baking classes for those who are new to baking with children (or new to baking with multiple young bakers). While this class is a perfect starting point for any family, those with young bakers presenting with speech delay or developmental disability diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder will particularly benefit from the individualized instruction this class type provides.
-
Are adults required to attend?Yes. Bake to Learn's primary goal is for adults to learn strategies they can take home and utilize with the young bakers in their lives. We have classes specific for adults and classes for adults and their young baker to attend together.
-
Should I bring my child with me to the Foundations course? This course is meant for adults to gain the skills they need to provide a safe and fun baking environment BEFORE they introduce their young baker to the equation. This class is designed to prepare adults with tricks for facilitating a successful baking activity. We want to keep some of these tricks up your sleeve! For this course, please leave your young baker at home and come prepared to learn yourself.
-
How do you address food allergies?Common allergens are shared in course descriptions and we strive to include a variety of recipes across our classes to ensure there are opportunities for everyone each season. For the individualized in-home baking class, we will schedule a 30-minute phone consultation where we can discuss your specific needs including any allergies you and your young baker might have. For the celebration class, treats can be made nut and/or gluten free upon request made 7 days in advance. Egg and dairy free options are not currently available for the celebration class.
